What goes in must come out. So a litter box is a must if have a cat or cats. You don’t have to litter train cats because their instinct is to cover their number one and two. Why? To hide their scent from predators.
Experts suggest having one litter box per cat. Some cats will share litter boxes while others won’t.
Pamela’s Tips
I learned early on how non-clumping litter is a pain because it needs to be changed often. Clumping litter is more expensive, yet it lasts a lot longer. This saves time and money in the long run.
Some people use plastic liners, which I dislike because the late Midnite clawed it up. An additional mess for me to clean.
Put the litter box in the bathroom or bathtub (if you have more than one bathroom). If you have a carpeted room, put down a shower curtain or some type of plastic to avoid spillage on the carpet. The below video shows our current setup and how I avoid getting litter down the drain.
Pamela’s Observations
Big litter boxes work well for those kitties that miss occasionally. However, if the cat continues to do their business outside of the box, this can be a sign of a health issue. Talk to your vet about the problem.
Most cats prefer open litter boxes to enclosed ones. It’s the same feeling as being in a Porta Potti compared to an open bathroom. Kitty also feels vulnerable and trapped if it’s a multi-cat household.
Purrhaps, your cat is like Tiger? The big boy considers the hooded litter box to be the best drum set out all the litter boxes and a purrfect alarm for his lazy human who won’t get out of bed and feed him! Check out his drumming ritual.
Must for Litter Boxes
This is important! Cats like their litter boxes clean. They won’t go in a dirty litter box. Think of how gross it is when you’re traveling and a gas station bathroom is filthy. Yuck! Scoop out the litter box at least once a day. And replace worn out litter boxes.
Kitties live for getting kitty litter all over the house. Mats to trap the litter help, and so do vacuums and brooms. No matter how much you clean litter, there will always be more…
Another thing cats love to do is to use the litter box just after you cleaned it. Aw, clean a litter box to mess up and get litter on the clean floor.
Do you have any litter box stories to share? Have you ever used one of those self-cleaning litter boxes and do you like it? I’m nervous about investing the money and for the cats not to use it.
Blessings and Purrs,

I buy big plastic bins at Goodwill and cut a notch in it. I put a square of leftover floor vinyl in front so cleanup is easier. I've never found a 'litter catcher' that worked. I use a combination of clumping and non-clumping litter. It's a good compromise, but I also find that pure clumping litter sticks like Hades to the bottom of the box. a mix is much easier to scoop. I also use the Litter Genie to keep odors down, and highly recommend MyCatPeed for accidents. I used to have one [Minavi] that used the litter box if it was perfect and she felt like it. So I used a lot of weewee pads. Two boxes and three boyz now and no accidents. Litter gets cleaned twice a day and sometimes they go in the garden during they're daily outing.
Clean litter box make Cat very content. Make Cat feel like human really get Cat, understand needs.
